Proofing prints

Photo inkjet printers cost less than than they did just a few years ago. That's great until you realize the supplies they use are not cheap.

To save money, make proofs before the final print. Here's how:

  • Use draft mode - print full sized images on standard or light-weight photo paper using draft mode. Save the more expensive, heavy-weight photo paper for the final job. The highest quality printer setting consumes much more ink than draft or standard print mode.
  • Print at reduced sizes - make scaled down versions of photos. Use light-weight photo paper for proofing.
  • Make contact sheets - small-sized thumbnail photos.
  • Give the proofs a preliminary review. Instead of printing every photo, print only the best of the lot.
