Calibrating a monitor

NOTE: Color management and calibration are complex subjects. They are discussed briefly here and focus is on the most basic calibration without using special hardware.

If your images are look well on your camera's LCD but the colors look dark or a differenct color on a computer monitor, a simple calibration of your computer monitor may help.

Your monitor should be set to the maximum number of colors available before starting the process.

On a Windows-based computer, right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select Properties. Next click the Settings tab. In the Colors area choose the highest color. If you have the option, also select your preferred monitor resolution.

An alternative way to adjust monitor color is to click on your desktop and select Display Modes > Colors > True Color. Also improve the look of images by adjusting the brightness and contrast of your monitor.

Adobe Gamma

If you're using an Adobe product, check your computers control panel to see if Adobe Gamma is installed. It walks you through a process to calibrate a monitor for consistent color.
