Photographing a TV screen
Photographing a television screen with a digital camera
- To capture a photo of a standard (CRT) television screen, use a shutter speed of less than 1/30 second.* Some digital cameras have a slow-shutter speed mode. Use this mode if you camera doesn't have manual or semi-automatic controls to adjust the shutter speed.
- To help prevent lens distortion, don't shoot at the widest angle. Zoom in slightly. Stay within the focal range recommended by the camera manufacturer.
- Place your camera on a tripod or other camera support.
- To prevent camera movement, trigger the shutter-release button with the self-timer or camera remote.
- Take photos when the room is dark to prevent glare and reflections on the screen.
*You can use a faster shutter speed when photographing digital televisions with progressive scan (eg. plasma, LCD).
