I was given a Bell and Howell BH725 as a gift, it was used by the person who gave it to me and it didn't come with the owners manual... I'm having a hard time figuring out what is wrong with it right now. It won't take any pictures, if you press the button the screen goes blank for a few seconds and it makes a little noise and the screen turns back on but it has the same number if available pictures in the camera memory as it did before I tried to take a picture...
Also after two or three times trying to take a picture or playing with the settings it will freeze up, I can't even turn it off. I have to open up the battery just to get it to turn off. And when I try again the same thing happens each and every time... I'm just trying to figure out if it's completely broken or if I am doing something wrong. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorely needed!
Thank you,
~Shay~

Hi there Shay and welcome to the Q&A Board!

I've looked and I can't seem to find an online manual or troubleshooter. Bummer! It sounds like your camera is not doing what it should. From what you described it doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. Are your batteries fresh (fully charged)?

I have read of problems with the battery compartment door not securing tightly enough resulting in the batteries making a poor connection. Does your battery compartment door close securely I wonder?

Yeah, I've also looked for online manuals, or even one by itself that I could buy, but I've only found the camera itself...
The battery compartment door seems to close fully, I only have to open it when the camera freezes and I can't even turn it off or change any settings.
The battery should be fully charged, I've got the connection cord plugged in to the computer and nothing changes...
Everything started out ok, I was able to take pictures and delete them and everything, and then (I had misplaced the software CD, for a month or so) after I finally was able to connect the camera to my computer, I downloaded the pictures that were in the camera and after the second time I did that I left the cam plugged in so it could fully charge and it wouldn't work afterward...
I'm going to go to Wolf camera ot Ritz camera and see if anyone will be helpful (or if they'll be like that old coot I had the last time, he was not helpful...).
Thanks Deb, any other info?

Hmmmm, only thing I can think of is to try and reset your camera to its default settings. There should be a setting like this in your menu ... or perhaps there's a reset button. I'm not familiar with your camera model to know which. Scroll through all your on-camera menu items to see if it's there. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.  Wink

Thanks for all your help, I took it to Ritz Camera and the guy asked if I had ever tried it with a memory card in it, which I had not, I didn't even have one yet (since I thought the camera was broken) and it worked! I dunno why, but it does! I'll bet the internal memory got fried somehow... *shrugs* but I'm happy!
Thanks again!
