I have a tripod and know how to use that for a digital camera. But I have heard people talking about monopods. What exactly are they? How do you use them? What situation would you use them in? Also I have heard of unipods? are they the same as monopods?

A monopod, also called a unipod, functions similar to a tripod. It has one, rather than three legs. Here' some additional information:

Hi Ken, a monopod is one legged as opposed to the three of a tripod. It's meant to do the same thing though which is to help stabilize your camera. You would use a monopod in situations where a tripod might not be allowed or practical do to space. A monopod is quicker and easier to deploy than a tripod as well. Wink
