Hi Ali,

Welcome to the Q&A Board!

Am I correct that the samsung VP-D101 is a camcorder? If so, I'm not sure we can be of much help because Digicamhelp is a site that deals with Digital Cameras, not camcorders.

However, I'm wondering if the media that is used with your camcorder has a write-protect switch. If so, it may be into the position which locks it so no files can be recorded to it. If that is the case, then just unlock the switch.

Hi Ali, as SBG indicated it may be that your media is write protected. I tried to find some specific information on your machine but it appears that Samsung uses a different numbering scheme for different countries :-/ so I'm afraid I didn't get very close. A couple of other things that might cause that sort of action could be that the battery door or the media door might be incompletely latched.

Hi Ali, I found a copy of the users manual online. The D101 does have a "protection" mode that prevents the accidental erasure of images. Under Troubleshooting it says that if you see the word PROTECT! on the display and it is blinking slowly, you are trying to erase a protected image. You will need to cancel the "protect" of image. To do this (turn this feature off) they suggest following these steps.

1. set the mode switch to Memory Card
2. Set the power switch to PLAYER
3. Using the FWD and REV arrows, search for the still image(s) that you want to unprotect
4. Press the MENU button
5. Turn the MENU DIAL to hightlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button
6. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight PROTECT and press the ENTER button. Pressing the ENTER button will turn the PROTECT feature ON and OFF
7. Exit the menu by pressing MENU button.

Hope this helps.  Smiley

Nothin' that creative or energetic, Mike. I hadn't had my jolt of caffeine yet. Wink  I just searched Samsung global rather than selecting a country/region. Chuckle, chuckle.  Grin

Hi there Ali, I believe you need to be in a playback mode to access the Protection feature. Did you set the mode switch to Memory Card and the power switch to Player before accessing the Menu?

To find the Mode Switch, swing out the LCD. The switch is on the camera body. Select Memory Card here.

The Power Switch is located to the right and below the eyepiece/viewfinder. Set that switch to Player.

Your OSC (On Screen Display) will indicate your selections.
