Hello.  I have gone through the canon website and saw the following information:
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsSupportAct&fcategoryid=223&modelid=1136
File Size                        SDC-512MB
Movie/Low                      1,078 sec
Movie/Medium                    629 sec
Movie/High                         237 sec

that's just about 17minutes for low type recording.  Is that right?  How is the experience of the others regarding this? do you consume 1GB for a 30minute all straight recording?

thanks in advance! Smiley

Yes, you can record until the memory card is full, but the maximum size of any movie, no matter which resolution is 1 GB.

I haven't used the video that much yet because there is so much to learn about the S2. I have found out a few things tho:

When shooting video in a very quiet environment, the hum and click of the zoom motor is recorded and can be quite annoying to hear during playback. However, if there is background noise while shooting, you can't hear the sound of the zoom motor. The clicking sound can be heard, but it is not as pronounced.

You can only record a few seconds of video at it's highest speed and frame rate (stunning video quality!) unless you have high speed memory card, such as the Sandisk Ultra II. If you don't have a high speed card, the camera buffer will shut the camera down when it is full.

I've also learned that it doesn't make much difference if you set the sound quality down, since it's the video track that makes a file so big. So to get the best stereo sound recording, I keep the sound at it's highest quality setting.

I add tips like this to my S2 blog as I learn about them.

Enjoy the camera. Like so many advanced digital cameras, it has somewhat of a high learning curve, so take your time learning about it.
