The Canon SD700-IS is not my only digital camera and never will be. An incredibly made, 4x optical zoom camera, it's the one I never leave home without. It is also the first sub-compact I've ever owned.

The image quality for both still images and videos is very good. While it doesn't have manual controls (one of the reasons it will never be my only digital camera), it has features such as Exposure Compensation, Auto Exposure Lock and Auto Focus Lock which give me a lot of control over exposure.

It has a decent macro mode and enough scene modes if I want to get a bit of creative control. The video quality is good, too, although you can not zoom when recording.

Like most compact digital cameras, the flash is so-so.

The SD700 seems like a bargin now. It cost $200 less than I paid for mine a year ago.

It certainly is an enjoyable and fun camera.

Hi toyds, and welcome!

Yes, the SD700 has great image quality.

To be honest, you can expect too much from a tiny built-camera flash, not only in the SD700 but most compact digital cameras.

You can minimize the dark corners in a couple of ways:

- make sure you use the flash within the recommended range for the focal length!!! This information is in the manual.

- don't shoot using the widest camera angle; zoom in a bit.

-  whenever possible, increase room lighting.

The video quality of the SD700 is quite good but the audio is nowhere near the quality of a dedicated video camera. My main recommendation would be to get as close to the subject as possible when recording sound.

If you haven't discovered it already, you may find some of the tips in my SD700 blog useful:

Hello Gail

I already read some of your Hints and Tips for SD700 IS/IXUS 800 IS/IXY 800 IS and I would like to ask this question

I already read your camera settings and i follow your setting but i dont know the Compression and the value of Recording pixels.May i know what are the values you used?

- My settings right now is this,
  Recording Pixels : Large ( 2816 x 2112 pixels)
  Compression : Fine

Do we have the same settings?

thanks a lot

I actually have my camera set to SuperFine because I sometimes crop a lot. However, one professional review I read stated that the SD700 Fine setting is just as good as many other compact cameras SuperFine (best) setting.

I switch to Fine when I use Continuous Shot (burst) mode, which Canon recommends for optimal performance.

Another advantage of shooting at Fine is that you'll fit more images on the memory card.

If you don't make large prints, and don't do a lot of cropping when editing, the Fine setting should be just, err, fine.  Grin
