Somehow I managed to drop an Olympus D-550, and although I can still turn it on, all I can do is view the photos already taken.
The lens doesn't extend, and when I push the button to take a picture, nothing happens.
I assume it's ruined, & since I have nothing to lose I am willing to hear any & all suggestions about trying to fix it myself.
It's easy enough to open the case, there are just some tiny screws.
And I hear some loose piece moving around.
What I'd love is a diagram of the INSIDE of the camera, so I can see what it is supposed to look like, but I can't find one.
Any help is greatly appreciated-
Thanks!

I'd check to see if your camera is still under warranty before taking it apart yourself. It could just be that the lens mechanism is jammed (that would prevent the camera from taking photos) and therefore not ruined.

If your warranty is expired, take it to a camera shop and get their help. They may be able and willing to talk you through the repair gratis.  Wink

Hi,
Thx for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it's out of warranty. My local camera shop will look at it for a fee, but were not at all receptive to helping me do it myself.

Hi Mary Ellen, that's a shame about the warranty and the camera shop. Bummer!

I'll keep asking around. Maybe someone has a schematic.

Hi Mary Ellen,
Here's a link to the schematic you had asked about: http://www.micro-tools.com/pdf/Olympus/D%20Series/D550.pdf

Happy tweaking!
