I recently purchased a Canon A570IS, a small, reasonably priced digital camera packed with features. It is an upgrade to the A510 and I continue to be impressed with the image quality, even when using scene modes. The camera also has full manual and semi-automatic controls.

The biggest negative of the A570IS is the slow flash recycle time, however it's par for the course of several other cameras in it's class and price range. The flash itself is excellent though.

The camera has Face Detection, a technology I originally thought was a gimmick....until I used it.

When taking flash photos of people using Face Detection, I've been very impressed with how well-exposed flash photos come out. The camera also offers Flash Compensation, so you can increase or decrease the flash output if needed.

It's a great camera, especially for the casual snapshooter.

I've written more about it in my blog:

Cool.  Thanks for the tip.  Smiley

I would really like to get a second/spare camera to have on-hand in case I were to need it.  And one my wife could use also. Smiley

I need to check into this one and others more.
