Yeah, if you look at them side-by-side, you'll see that the midtones are a pinch deep but I was just playing with this one. The point here is to look at the color version and see what might need to be tweaked with levels or curves to improve the tonal range that would result when converted to black and white. Then, you pour yourself a cup of coffe and look at the colors and say, "Hmmmm, how will those colors translate into gradations of black to white?" I'm no pro at this but I think this gives us an indication of what can be pulled out of the range. Then, by treating the sky separately from the rest of the image during the conversion, it allowed for further, finer adjustments. Neat, huh?! Wink

I haven't yet achieved the definition on the cloud you did Deb but I think I'm making a little progress.

Of course I broke down and got a copy of PSE 5.0 to get this far. (never hurts to have a new learning curve to struggle through). Now I just have to make myself use it... Wink
