Would you use your flash to illuminate the match...

Or not use the flash so as to highlight the flame?

Personally I'm leaning toward not using the flash.

I like them both but think the second one has more "mystique."

What's your setup? Matchstick in one hand and camera in the other?  Grin Tongue

I agree with Gail, but it depends on your goal, I think.

Actually I had neither in hand.   Cool
The camera was on the tripod and the match was inserted into a small block of styrofoam in front of a black backdrop. What I did have "in hand" was the camera remote in one and a lighter in the other.  Cheesy

Agreed, I like to think that my images are art rather than a simple record. The image with the match illuminated just seemed too  ummm, matter of fact? I also didn't want the image to just be a splotch of flame so I did want a hint of the match to remain. If you look closely at the second you can see the match head in there. Wink

Hi, I prefer the one without flash too, but would try a bit longer exposure to gain just a hint of the matchstick. Not so long that the stick is completely revealed; but enough so that it's glimpsed. ...... But that's just my opinion ....  Wink

Hot shots (pardon the pun; couldn't help myself) in both cases!  Smiley
