Q:  Balancing supplemental flash---also: warming polarizer?

Hi:  I usually use fairly sophisticated ultra zoom cameras, currently a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18.  Because they ususually lack hot shoes, I figure to supplement the puny flip-up flashes with an optically triggered flash.  I have a fairly basic one from Sunpak, and an add-on trigger for my old Nikon SB24.  Has anyone found a good guide for how to balance the exposure for the added flash? Both can be set for specific ISOs, the Nikon has variable output too.

Also:  Anyone tried one of the "warming" polarizers?  Hoya sells one called the "Moose" after nature photographer Moose Anderson.  They're supposed to act like an 81-A filter to counter the bluish quality a polarizer can add.  (I don't want to simply stack a polarizer and 81-A because it will vignette at wide angle) However, I've seen it argued that auto white balance will counter bluing from the polarizer anyway.

Hi, addressing your warming polarizer question ...
Moose no longer uses it. He's using the Nikon Slim Polarizer these days (see his article http://www.moosepeterson.com/gear/NikonSlimPolarizer.html ) when the setting and lighting warrant it. Hope this helps.  Wink
