Hello everyone

I am in desperate need of help so please please reply if you have any idea how to solve my problem.

I have a kodak digital camera and have an SD Fujifilm 256mb card for it.  It can hold up to (roughly) 150 images.

The problem is, I was recently on holiday and when I took the last photo....instead of getting a message saying "memory card full, delete images" (or something similar) - I got a message saying "memory card requires formatting". The only options I am given is to continue (which will format the card and delete all my holiday pics!) or cancel. But when I cancel, it does not let me view any of my images. When I hook it up to my pc....it is not reading the memory card, it is saying there are no images.

It seems like a loose-loose situation as I dont want to format the card and loose all my photos, but I cant view my images or transfer them onto my computer anyway.

Then there was hope, I found programs online which claim to recover deleted images from memory cards by using a card reader hooked up to the computer. So I go out and buy a card reader and download many programs to try. Unfortunately, the card reader does not even detect my memory card, it acts like there is nothing there. However, when I tried another memory card...it worked fine and the software recovered some deleted photos.

So, the main problem is this single memory card. All I want is my holiday photographs.  Can anyone help I had a thought....perhaps format the memory card anyway and then use one of the recovery programs to recover them....but Im not sure if it would work and i dont want to risk it.

Please, please help if you can! Thank you x

lilie_red's problem sounds similar to the problem I have with my memory card. However I have tried taking the card out and the batteries etc and replacing them but it does not make any difference.

This HAS happened before and I was forced to format the memory card which deleted many photographs I had taken on my 21st birthday. Needless to say I was extremely upset.

However, once I formatted the memory card, it started working again as normal (only all the images were gone).

I never looked into image recovery at the time as I didnt think such a thing existed.  Now I am starting to think....what IF....I go ahead and format the memory card. Then try image recovery software which might recover my birthday AND holiday photos?

Does anyone think this is possible? If so, can anyone recommend a good image recovery software...I know some are free and some you need to pay for but to be honest, I dont care how much it costs if it means getting my photos back.....

Thanks x

Also....on my camera...the option to format the memory card......it just says "format", it doesnt say if its high or low level format. How do I find out?

Thanks x

shiv21, it's hard to know which type of format your camera uses, it might even bear a regular name. But if the card is unusable, you run little risk of making things worse by formtatting...

One thing you COULD do as a test is take a few pictures with a valid card, format it, then try the recovery program on that card. If it finds the picures, there's a good chance it will work on your corrupted card.

Hi there,

I tried what you said, i formatted pics on another memory card and managed to recover them with a photo recovery program.

The only problem is...I tried to format the memory card i am having problems with....and now it wont let me format the card! I am being shown an error message "FILESYS ERROR 1a00". I have no idea what this means but it comes up every time. I have tried removing batteries, changing them, removing and inserting the memory card but nothing helps. This error message wont go away so now i cant even format my card in order to attempt to recover the photos! This is a nightmare and is just going from bad to worse!

Can anyone help??? Sad This is really stressing me out and upsetting me as i dont want all my precious photos to be lost forever Sad

Hi shiv21, I'd contact Kodak support and let them know the error message you are receiving. You can reach them online at http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=10&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=15300

Hope this helps.
