i have a 1gb H type card which has been fine for about the year i have had it. all of a sudden it has decided to show the card as having an error preventing me from downloading all the photos i've taken. i've tried repair software downloads, but none have worked, in fact the drive the card sits in isn't recognising there is any card in it. i know the drive is fine as i have other xd cards which work in this drive. would anyone know how i could recover the data that i know is on the card? i have also tried camera repair specialists, who again cannot solve this.

this sounds like a real problem. If you cannot access the card, then there's little you can do about it. Have you tried another card reader? That might be able to help. The first thing is to access the card, then you'll see if a photo recovery software can get your pictures back, after which you should format the card (if you can, do a Low Level format). But I wouldn't trust that card for important data if it failed once.

There has been multiple reports of xD cards failing, much more so than any other types of cards. There is a thread here about just that problem, you might want to read it:
