Hey all,

My XD card is reporting back that it is "write protected". In order to continue using it, I have to remove the write protection. The problem is..... How?

 Any ideas?

Hi mrutter and welcome to the Q&A Board.
You didn't indicate your camera type but many of them include a feature to write protect some or even all of the image on the card. Is it possible that this feature was somehow enabled? Also if you're using a card reader to transfer/view the files on the computer it is possible that perhaps while viewing the card as a "mass storage device" that somehow the properties were set to write protected.

Perhaps you can supply a bit more info?

Sorry for the lag time....

Here are the specifics:

The camera is the Fuji Finepix S5000

The memory card is the xD128mb (DPC-128)

I have  the card reader: DPC-R1

The issue is that the memory card is reporting write protected . Is there any program I can download that will allow for an "unconditional write" to allow me to reformat the card? Perhaps it will reset the write protection flag?

Hi Mrutter! Have you tried using the "unprotect" feature of your camera?

(Set your power switch to playback mode. Press the MENU/OK button. From the menu displayed press the little key icon then select RESET ALL. This will "unprotect" the files.) Directions from the online manual (page 63-64). http://www.fujifilmusa.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/bin/S5000Manual.pdf
