Hello,

I just picked up a new Sony DSC-H5. My first digital camera. Enjoying it so far while familiarizing myself with the controlls and finding the optimal settings for the right situation.

Any how, the recharger that comes with the Sony H5, is considered slow. It takes 6 hours for a full charge. From when the battery is completely depleted.

Can you recommend some high quality rechargers that can do it in less than half the time? "Smart" rechargers that knows to shut itself off when done recharging.

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome!

We do not usually recommend specific brands. Moreover, the selection can vary greatly from one store to the next, and from one region to another.

You are right that you should select a smart charger. Most of these can charge two batteries in an hour or less. Do not select one that charges the batteries too fast. This can lead to heating and damage. A charger that plugs right into the wall is convenient, as it takes less space when you travel (no cord). Last, if you plan on traveling, select a charger that can be used with various voltages.

The most common brands, like Sanyo, Energizer, Panasonic, Rayovac, and many others, are all good choices, as long as they fit the criteria you want. size can also be an issue, if you travel a lot.

I purchased a smart charger from Thomas Distributing.

http://www.thomas-distributing.com/index.htm

They have lots of good stuff and some of their kits come with a case for the charger and plastic holders for the batteries.

If you travel a lot, avoid a charger with a big "brick" on the end of the cord. Finally, if you buy a fast charger make sure the batteries are compatible and suitable for fast charging.

Like ShutterbugGail, I also bought a battery charger from Thomas Distributing.  This one, to be exact.

Very pleased with the product and the speedy service.

There are other good ones out there, I'm sure.  This one has been good to me so far.
