I have a 5. Pentax Optio that uses a SanDisk 512 memory card.  My sister has a 3.1 HP that uses a 256 memory card - reently I tried to use her card in my camera but received a 'unsupportable card' message.  When she tried to use it in her card again, she also received a 'unsupportable card' message.
Before the switch both cards worked fine, now my sister's card does not appear to work any more.
Any idea why this happened and what we can do to 'fix' her card ?

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Hi rothmila and welcome to the Q&A Board!

How frustrating. A couple of questions. Have you tried formatting the card in your sister's camera, or won't the card let you even to that?

I know when a card is formatted in a camera, the camera puts its own file system on the card. Hopefully, you will be able to format it in the camera.

Do you have a card reader? If you do, does the card work in the reader? If so, you may want to try this utility that someone mentioned in another thread:

Memory Card Safe Eraser - http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/downloads.htm

It was mentioned in this thread at the Q&A Board.

http://www.digicamhelp.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=access;action=display;num=1096138468;start=0

That thread is the longest, most active one to date at the Q&A Board. That shows how many people have problems with their memory cards. The manufactures are not telling us what we need to know.

As an aside, I just spent almost $100 on a very fast Secure Digital card. To think that something can ruin it in a second really concerns me. As soon as my scheudle permits, I'm planning to call a card manufacturer to see if we can get to the bottom of these types of problems.

In the meantime, try the suggestions above, read through the other thread to see if something there can help you, and let us know if anything works.
