SD Memory cards

Hi all, I just bought a digital camera for my son for Christmas. Have been looking around the internet for 256-512Mb size memory cards. I found some real good prices but never heard of the manufacturer's. Is it safe buying a no name brand memory card compared to a well known name?

Hi marmaduke! All I can say is "buyer beware". Personally, my experience has been with name brand cards (CF type) only. I use Lexar CF cards and have never had a problem with them. Even washed one by mistake in the washing machine (not recommended!!!!) and, after drying it out thoroughly, found that it still worked fine.

I would simply add to what Deb said that there are many reports on "no-name" brands working just fine. I'd basically check to see if the company has a (real) warranty policy. Then maybe check with Google to see if you find good or bad reviews about that specific brand. Often, unknown brands buy parts from reputable manufacturers, but not always. It also depends on the price difference, sometimes it's worth it to take a risk.
