Hi,

I have a Fuji FinePix A345 camera and when I insert a 16mb memory card I get the message that the card is not initialized
My question: How does one format (initialize) the card after one inserts it into the memory card slot. I am new to all this and would appreciate any help you folks can give me.

Thanks a bunch,

Hi jctdigicam,

Welcome to Digicamhelp and to the world of digital photography!

I was able to download a pdf version of the manual for your camera. To format your card you must use the Set-Up menu (see page 52 in the manual).

Navigate to Format, open the Format menu, then press the arrow button to select "OK." Next, press the Menu/OK button on the camera to start the format process. (page 54).

That should do it. If you have further questions, we are here to help.

Hi shutterbuggail,

Thanks for your prompt response and help. As they say:"First read the instructions!". The paper users' manual does not tell how to format so I will take your advice and check out the PDF version.

It looks like it's a compatibility issue.

According to Fujifilm's site, the A345 is compatible with the 1GB, 512MB and 256MB except 2GB xD-Picture Card TypeM /TypeH.

The Fujifilm camera, which is about five years old, doesn't appear to be compatible with M+. Type M+ cards were introduced in 2008.
