I have a Canon S2 IS that I would like to use filters with. What is the difference in the 55mm adapter and the 58mm adapter for the S2?

Thanks!

Hi there JP,

If you're referring to lens adapters (such as closeup lens adapters, etc.), the mm designation refers to the focal length of that "lens".

If, on the other hand, you are referring to filters, then the mm designation refers the size of the filter.

Hi JP,

Welcome to the Q&A Board!

I think the adapter sizes for the S2 are 52mm (not 55mm) and 58mm.

The 52mm is slightly smaller and compact. Because it's smaller it blocks less of the built-in flash and viewfinder.

I'm thinking about getting a lens kit for my S2, too. I'll get the 58mm because I already have 58mm UV and a polarizing filters.

I haven't had time to check with Canon yet, but I believe if you ever want to use optional Canon lenses for the S2, you'll need a 58mm adapter.

If you're in the U.S. and have additional questions, Canon's phone # is 800-828-4040. In my experience, they answer the phone very quickly.
