Gail, The Canon web site says not to use lithium batteries in the S2 as they may overheat.  Have you heard otherwise?

Hi Spiel, and welcome.

I'm unable to access the link you provided. Is it an official Canon site?

Here's what I've learned.

In the S1 manual it specifically states not to use lithium batteries. The S2 manual is silent on the subject. I've discussed this in other forums and the consensus is that it's okay to use them in the S2.

That is not an official opinion from Canon but, as was pointed out to me, there is no prohibition about using lithium batteries in the S2.

Sorry that the link does not work, but if you go to the S2 FAQ's page on the official US Canon site and then search for 'lithium' you'll get to the page that I was trying to post where it says that lithiums are not to be used in the S2.

I have a set of new Lithium energizers, and I measured the voltage with a Fluke DVM and the voltage was 1.77v;  alkalines are typically 1.5 v.

Jim,

I did a search in the FAQs and found it.

You're correct. Thing I can't understand is why Canon deleted the section in the S2 manual about not using lithium batteries. Many people will never go to their website and dig up that information, and will use lithium batteries in ignorance. This is not smart thinking on Canon's part.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful!
