HI, it's my birthday this friday and what i wanted was the Kodak easyshare z740. i did some research on it in consumer reports and other resources and found that for my boyfriend's and my budget that would be perfect for me. we go on vacation and places a lot and i love taking pictures, doing my scrap book, and just having keepsakes. anyways, my question is that if it already has a built in 32 MB memory card would a 252 MB be compatable to buy and use with this camera? i know that we will be taking a bunch of pictures on our vacation this year and i wanted to go get a few memory cards to take with us but if the 252 would work than i would like to just buy 2 of those instead of 3 32's.Huh

Happy Birthday picperfectgal, and welcome to the Q&A Board.

If you shoot your images at 5 megapixels, which is recommended for getting the highest resolution photos, you won't get many images on the 32mb built-in memory. In fact, I'd personally consider it as a "backup," not the main place to store my photos.

The camera has a slot of Secure Digital and MultiMedia cards. Many prefer the Secure Digital cards because they don't have moveable parts like MM cards. They say the SD cards are less prone to problems.

I thinkg a 256 mb memory card is a good idea. If you take 100 or so shots a day, you may even want to consider a 512 mb card (or two 256 cards).

Here's some information about memory cards that may prove helpful:

And here's some information on how many shots you can expect to get on a memory card based on resolution:

Lexar, Sandisk and PNY are some of the better known memory card manufacturers.

Let us know if you have any more questions. Don't eat too much birthday cake tomorrow.  Cheesy

Grin Thanks for your help! The camera just arrived yesterday and it's great. I think you're right and I will go out and get a 512 MB card because I know we're going to do a lot and I need to update our picture books.

You might consider two or at least add a 256 to the mix. You never know when a card could fill out and you're unable to upload the images right away Wink. I know that once I'm in picture taking mode I can easily run through one card (512), quite often two and three isn't unheard of. Cool

I will leave 5 - 10 pics available on the last card of the day, just in case. Grin
