If you format a memory card, are only pictures/videos erased? Or is any software deleted as well?

Also, if you put your memory card into your computer and delete the pictures through the computer, will the memory card become corrupted? Thanks.

Hi Amanda,

Welcome to the Q&A Board,

You can format a memory card, or you can erase it.

When you format a memory card in your camera, all images and videos are deleted.

Many digital cameras let you "protect" images through a menu. Then when you erase the memory card, all images will be deleted *except* the ones you protected.

It's very important you understand that even if you protect images, they WILL be deleted when you *format* a card.

I highly recommend you erase or format a memory card in your digital camera. You can delete images on a card via a computer, but too many people report problems.
