i have a fuji 128mb xd card...
if i try to delete images on it when in my pc card reader
the pc responds with the message..
"cannot delete *file, the disk is write protected.remove the write protect or use another disk........
..card is working ok in camera, fuji s7000 (formatting/deleting/writing etc)..
i have not had this problem before (have had camera for about 6 months)...i also have a 16mb card which is
fine and is working in all scenarios on pc or camera....
how do i remove write protection?is there such a thing
on an xd card?..having read other posts and probs it
might be a good idea to leave it protected??

Hi there young bob and welcome to the Q&A Board.

To my knowledge there is no "write protect" slider like you may find on a floppy disk. If the files are "write protected" I suspect that it was some how set that way in camera. Transfer the images to your hard drive so they're safe and try formatting the card in camera. Don't delete, make sure you format. Then take a couple of pics and try deleting them from the card reader again (if you want to).
Personally with all the problems I've seen cropping up when people try using the card reader to delete or format I prefer to do it all in camera. I only use the reader to transfer the files. That saves me the possible grief of losing it all.

Hi "Young Bob", I checked the specs on your camera (Fuji S7000) and there is a "write protect" feature accessed by pressing the Main button in Playback Mode. It enables you to write protect some or all of your images on the memory card. Is it possible that this feature had been enabled? If so, to unprotect those images, go back to Playback Menu > Main buttom > Protect > Reset All. Hope that helps.  Smiley
