mc lens protector

I have a Panasonic FZ 20  should i buy the  MC lens protector,  that protects the lens from scratches dust etc  it is expensive and I dont know if its needed or not

Hi Cyndi and welcome to the Q&A Board.

Can it help protect your lens? Yes. Is it necessary? I don't think so, not to mention that adding another layer of glass in front of the lens may effect image quality (unless you pay top dollar for the filter). The FZ 20 comes with a lens hood which will protect your lens somewhat without effecting the images and if you keep a little blower bulb handy that can keep the lens free from dust. Now these are just my opinion. I know a number of people that insist that it's a good idea to keep a clear filter in front of the lens for protection but so far I've not run into a situation where I would have needed it.
