Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a present for my husband who loves photography. I was thinking of getting him a tripod but I know very little about them. Is there something special I should look for I buy one? It doesn't have to be fancy because he won't use it that much. But I know he would like one.

Thank you for your help.

Hello Katie and welcome,

You might want to take a look at this article on choosing a tripod. Depending on the size of the camera and the intended use there's quite a range available. For example a couple of years ago I was using a small digital camera and very light weight. I went out and bought a $19.95 special at Walmart and frankly it served my limited needs quite well. After I got my dSLR that changed a bit. I found I needed something a bit more substantial and sturdy. At the same time it needed to be reasonably light so I could carry it with me if I decided to go hiking. I found one in the $100 to $150 range that has worked fine so far. If I had $$$ just laying about I might go crazy and spend $400 on a set of legs then another $300 for a head to mount the cam on but then again with that kind of cash I could get another lens...Wink

You could also give your husband a gift certificate to your local camera shop and let him choose according to what he thinks he needs.
