Hi,

I chased the Pentax K20D DSLR about a month ago. I really do not regret my choice! What I like about it, shortly put (there's a lot to like!), is the great ergonomy, the numerous external controls, the weather sealing, the excellent features list, and the price point Wink Regarding price, it almost compares with entry-level DSLRs from some manufacturers, while regarding features it's positionned at the "semi-pro" level.

Anyone owning old Pentax lenses will be happy to learn that Pentax DSLRs support every Pentax lens ever made.

Not everything is perfect, but all in all it's an impressive camera. Controls and menus are so well designed that after reading the manual once, I have had no further need for it so far.

If I had to do it again, I would make the exact same purchase!

How's it going with the new camera? What don't you like about it? How's the high ISO performance?

The camera is a fantastic tool, I'm glad I have it, and after a few weeks it's already become second nature to use it. I used my Canon S2 yesterday night (my previous "main" camera) and it actually felt strange, even though I've used it for three years. The K20D is, to my eyes, a great tool to take and make pictures, it's a pleasure to use.

Some things I like less are mostly design choices, like some menus functionalities. I'm half-disappointed with the Live View feature. Even though it can be invaluable at times, it's not extremely well implemented and the focusing seems a bit erratic at times. On the other hand, manual focus using a Live View is so easy it,s hard to believe... Autofocus in low light can be an issue, but in all fairness the only times it has actually been a problem was at a wedding, during the dance. The only light source was the colour ball of the DJ, and my lens was at a zoom position that only allowed an f4,5 aperture. Not exactly an easy situation. I should have tried to use a laser pointer I have, apparently it helps to acquire focus.

High ISO performances are impressive, especially after graduating from a P&S. I can comfortably use ISO up to 800 without thinking twice about it, ISO 1600 can be used without risk as needed, even though in low light there is a noticeable loss of image quality (to be expected). I have not yet had to use ISO 3200, but samples found on the web suggest that it can be used if nothing else works. Considering that the camera has a reliable image stabilization system, so far I have not experienced any problems.
