Hi all,

So following the problem I had with my Olympus x-42 camera, I am looking at getting a new camera with the refund I get given. Can anyone recommend a good camera make to take general pictures with? I am told that I should stay clear of Nikons?

Thank you everyone,

Hello, I am surprised you have been told of staying clear of Nikon, they are as reputable as any, and are probably among the best-regarded brands out there.

It is not our purpose to recommend specific brands. If you describe the features that interest you, we might be able to point out some models better suited for you, but there are too many options out there for us to pick a brand for you.

Any of the "main" manufacturers are s safe enough in general, regarding reliability. None is perfect, however, as you have discovered. Be sure to check memory card types, movie modes, exposure controls, or any feature important to you.

As bdery pointed out, give us more details about the type of camera you're looking for.

Peek around a bit in the Buying Guide section of our site. It can help you decide the type of camera that best meets your photo shooting style.

This choosing chart will too:
