well first question is, my mom has a a590 canon powershot ( http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120256 ), could you suggest something thats on par or better thats rechargeable in the ($100-$130 price range). she hates how fast it goes threw batteries and we tried rechargeable ones, they dont last long. she mainly uses the camera outside to take pictures of her flowers, and the birds.

my question is, i just bought a sl720 samsung ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830144227&cm_re=sl720-_-30-144-227-_-Product ) ,   my problem is the 12mp full size images look terrible unless i manually resize smaller, is there not a way to change resolution without changing mp's. 12mp is 4000x3000 smallest i see is 1mp which is 1024x768. and if i have to manually resize the picture, what would be the highest resolution i could resize it to for max quality. thanks.

The Canon a590 is a nifty little camera. I owned it, gave it to my grandson and he lost it!  Shocked Most any new camera today should have longer battery life, but the larger the LCD, the more battery power it uses.

As for the a590, maybe you need new rechargeable batteries. Also, there are AA batteries made especially for digital cameras that have more power. Also, very important, check the camera manual and make sure you have the battery power saver options enabled. You should do this with any digital camera you own.

Most digital images are "soft" when viewed at full resolution. They will look better when reduced in size and even sharpened a bit when editing. Soft images are normal:

Check if your camera has a setting to increase the in-camera sharpening.

thanks alot, and ill look into getting my mom batteries.

anyway you could look at some pictures ive taken and tell me how it is or how i can improve the picture? i adjusted the sharpness then i resized picture to 25% from 4000x3000, i used 400iso, but another friend is telling me to use lowest iso i can, which would be 80 iso.
i used my cat since i figured his hair would show good detail.
