I have lens that have IS. Should I use the IS when taking sports action shots or should I turn it off? Or does it matter?

Hello and welcome!

IS is one of the most useful features (for me) on a camera. I recommend using it all the time except when you're on a tripod. There are no situations when it will degrade your images (if it works well) and in almost every cases it will improve them. Very wide lenses might be a special case when it won't always work well, but if it's built in your lens, it should be tweaked for it. Very close focusing can sometimes fool the IS system, but I have yet to experience it.
