Have you thought about making a PowerPoint presentation? You have total control over timing, transitions, etc.
If you don't have
Microsoft Office/ PowerPoint you can download
Sun Microsystem's OpenOffice, an excellent, full-featured and free program that includes
Impress, the equivalent of MS Powerpoint.
I use Impress for presentations and run them from my Laptop connected with a S-Video cable a large LCD monitor. I don't use a projector so I can't offer meaningful advice there; however, I believe you may be able to connect a notebook to a projector.
