Congratulations Rick on your D5000 and Tamron 70-300mm

Photos are pretty good - compositions are pretty nice

I feel Great Blue Heron is a bit dull - the details didn't come out as expected - but that might be because you shot the photo at noon if I am correct

Yes, the blue herron photo lacks for detail - it was over 100 yards away, against a brown dirt background.  I can't ever seem to get him to go over to the nice, green grassy area. :-P
