Are there really any difference in brands or types of CF Card Readers as far as speed in transferring photos from the card to the computer?  I know the type of CF will make a difference but I was wonder about the actual reader.  My inclination is that the reader does not make any difference.

Hi brentblue and welcome to the Q&A Forum,

The difference is in the way the card reader is connected to a computer. A reader with USB 2 compatibilty is faster than the older USB 1. The fastest connection is with Firewire (IEEE 1394 interface), but readers with this interface are not as commonly available as USB2. Companies such as Lexar, Sandisk and Delkin make CF firewire readers. Of course, you'll need a firewire port in you computer. If you have a fast memory card, that will influence the transfer rate too.
