have a 5mp fugi digital camera, and have been copying images to the picture card, on a card reader, and viewing them on the LCD screen on the camera....that works fine.

But when i come to copy a larger image such as 3264 x 2448
I get a read error on the LCD sreen

So my question is these larger sizes 3264 x 2448 how would i resize this, to fit my camera's maximum size which is 2592 x 1944 to get a good print, from one of those kodak instant picture machines

I have been trying the "windows picture resizer" but i keep getting weired sizes, they do go onto the camera, but i don't know how they will print, on the machine in the shop.

I know if i have a picture which is 2592 x 1944 i will get a good print
But don't quite know how to rezise it to this

or what would be the nearest i could get to this so i could copy it onto my camera, and still have a good print.

I am a beginner in this, but have found that copying saved pictures on my computer to my camera , with sizes 2594 x 1944 is straight forward, , anything bigger than this would need resizing to go on my camera

I do have a photo editor, which can resize pictures in pixels or inches, but i keep getting it wrong

You have to reduce the file size and/or crop images to the correct dimensions. I don't know what photo editing program you use but here's a tutorial on how to resize a photo. Most photo editing programs have a similar method:

You may know that you can not change the filename of images when you put them back on a memory card to view in the camera. We have information about this here:

Let us know if you have additional questions.

I see what you mean, really its a matter of just experimenting with the file size, to see how good they print, and also cropping

these editing programs, why can you only change the width, i changed the with to 2592 from 3264, but the height was all wrong

I was trying to reduce it from 3264x2448   to 2592x 1944   so i reduced the width to 2592 but the height was 2592x3444

As i say iam still learning, but is doe's get confusing, I have pictures on my computer that where taken by a different camera, a 12mp camera, mine is only a 5mp fugi fine pix A510, now even with the file names have been changed, but i can still put them on my camera, but i have to reduce the picture dimensions to something like 2592x1944
from 3264x2448

This is not using a memory card reader as well, its just the camera hooked up to the computer.

I do know about how to resize them for email, and for the web, i am just interested in how they will print out when i take them to the shop.

[edit]why can you only change the width, i changed the with to 2592 from 3264, but the height was all wrong[/edit]

If you get them to the width you need, perhaps the height will be okay.

What editing program are you using? I have Photoshop and can crop to the exact size I want, and also adjust the resolution at the same time.

But what you really need to do is crop the images to fit on the size paper you want printed, for example 4x6" or 5x7."

There are other ways to bring digital images to the printer: burn them into a CD, use a USB Flash Drive. I print most f my family photos but have recently ordered from Kodak Gallery (formerly known as Ofoto, on of the highest rated online photo printers).

Yes, but if I understand you correctly, the images are being saved to a memory card in the camera, unless it has built in memory.

When I have prints made at a shop (usually enlargements) I crop and edit them first but I do not resize the image at all. This way you'll get the best quality. You can reduce them a bit for small prints, however.

Yes i have tryed doing the width thats fine, but the height is often wrong.

I have the windows picture resizer, and also "gimp" but still trying to learn about that, i also have a photo editor that was included with my printers software, but i do not use my printer to print the pictures.

When i do crop an image though, i don't know what size its going to come out, until i have done it,   what is the lowest size you can go to and still produce a good quality 6x4  5x7  print.

As you said to get these large file size pictures of the computer and to print them, i would have to use a usb flash drive, as i am sure using my camera to do this is not the best way.
