I have made a brochure and a banner (4'x3') in Publisher type software which include (in the most recent case) 20 pictures taken w/7mp camera. - As I couldn't be sure what size the photos should be in the finished product, I scaled each picture in the brochure/banner to fit as needed.
NOW the total files are so big 7 MB/21.6MB, and I have difficulty sending it to the client via email. - Does this mean that I have to make a pre-determined size thumbnail in photoshop first - or what is the answer to smaller finished file size? - or the sending it to the client for review?? Hi there Bajabuddie and welcome to the Q&A Forum!

You have a few options. Check if your publisher program saves a document in the Adobe PDF format. Many pros send proofs to their clients in that format. If so, let me know and I will give you suggestions about how to set the preferences to give you much smaller sized file suitable for proofing.

I sometimes use OpenOffice by Sun Mircorsystems, a free, open source program that lets me open Microsoft documents such as Publisher. My Microsoft Office is old so I open a compatible document in OpenOffice and Export as a pdf file.

Or, you can open a free Xdrive account; upload the file and give your client permission to download it:

There are similar free services, though this is the one I'm personally most familar with.

Alternatively, if you have your own website, you can FTP the file and give your client the URL to the file so he/she can download it.

Hi,

just one further idea (though the PDF suggestion seems the best to me). I know PowerPoint lets you rescale the size of images, I'm sure Publisher does that too. Right click on an image, then select properties. Somewhere you will have an option to rescale; simply select "For Prints" and the software should retain enough resolution to print correctly, but greatly reduce the size of the final document.

Great idea -- I'll look for that option. -- Thank you
