Hi.  I have Sony DSC-H1.  On image download to laptop (Win XP) images appear "squashed".  If I rotate image 90 degrees or print image it looks and prints fine.  I have not changed way use camera or any settings (that aware of) was working fine until this morning, now all images appear squashed.  They remain squashed whether published to web or used in other programs unless I rotate and save at rotated angle?Huh Any help welcome and appreciated.

Hi and welcome!

It sounds like a strange issue, I never heard of this before today Wink

Have you tried transfering files to another computer directly from the camera? That would tell you if the problem is in the camera or the laptop you are using.

Also, you cuold try deactivating the auto-rotate feature of your camera (I believe it has one) and see if that solves the problem. It could be that Windows is somehow trying to rotate images in a wrong way.

If this doesn't work, maybe perform a reset of your camera (look in your manual for that).

Let us know how it goes!

Thank you bdery.

I've managed to establish today that the camera is not at fault.  After checking file download on two other XP machines, all is well with images.  It would appear to be a problem with laptop.  Have tried system restore to no avail and also monitor driver updates.  Nothing.  Will just have to keep checking. :-/

I don't know if any of these will work but I don't think it would hurt go give one or more of them a try:

- Do a disk clean up; that will empty the temp folder, where temporary files are held. In additon, use the Run command, type in
%temp% and delete any files in there that you can.

- Run the error checking utility

This is a long shot, but maybe your memory card is becoming corrupted. After you remove the files from it, format the card.

Finally, get a new card reader or try downloading the images from the camera to the computer with the cable that came with it.
