Okay, last week i messed up my computer which meant it wouldn't boot up. All of my mums photos were on there so i took it to PC world and asked them to recover the data from the hard drive. Got it back today and many of the pictures seem to be corrupt or damaged, most of them will not open when i preview them in Windows Picture Viewer or any other photo software i've got. But all of the thumbnails show. I can open them using FireFox/Internet explorer to find that the ones that wouldn't open are damaged

There photos were fine before hand, most of the ones which are damaged are the larger dimension ones.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to recover the images?

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this

Any help or suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks

Hi Jenkinz and welcome to the Q&A Forum.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems, but even more so about your digital photos!! Did you contact PC world to see if there is anything they can do. Sometimes there are more than one level of recovery, so maybe they can try again.

If not, try to recover as many images as you can from your memory card with photo recovery software. You will need a card reader to hook up to your computer.

You can try this free one first before buying software.

Here's some info about photo recovery. Check out the tutorial to see how easy it is.

I do hope the company can restore your images without being corrupted. Let us know how it works out. Good luck.

btw, if you don't regularly back up your favorite photos, you should begin to do so.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did contact PC world but there were a few problems when recovering the data, which meant the file names couldn't be recovered and some of the files would be corrupt/damaged.

I will give the photo recovery program a go tomorrow and i will definitely back up things i don't want to loose now.
