Vista will probably be a good product, but apart from the Canon compatibility probles, there are many, many things that are not supported yet. As Mike pointed out, upgrading to Vista might mean changing the printer, the webcam, most softwares, etc.
Vista users nowadays are really beta testers.
Gail, if you have a valid XP license, you could easily purchase a computer without OS, remove XP from your older computer, and install it on the new one. It would be perfectly legal, and XP will still be working for many years. NT4 was still supported until recently.
From the little experience I have with it, Vista is cute, and prtty natural for the most part, but it's MUCH too flashy and memory consuming for my tastes... I was still using the Classic interface up to a few months ago
