Perhaps...

What's the camera model, and what operating system (Windows 98SE, Windows XP, Mac OSX, etc)?

Oh, and welcome to the forums!  Smiley

Hi jamesrr25 and welcome!

Most Kodak cameras (like Canon cameras, and a few other brands) don't act as card readers, the way your Sony does. That means you cannot directly access the data inside the camera. However, there is a way to transfer the files with Windows XP. In the "My Computer" menu, there is a "scanners and cameras" icon, and selecting it will enable the transfer. It's like using the Easyshare software, but Windows does the transfer for you. Be careful though, because the one time I tried it, Windows also renamed my pictures...

On the other hand, I think the Easyshare software is quite convenient. You basically configures it to transfer your files to a given folder, and you're done. If it works like the Canon software, it also creates subfolders by date, and that can be very useful to sort your files. I guess we all manage our pics differently.

There is one last option : your friend could buy a cheap card reader, and use it to transfer the files. Card readers are not too expensive (I have a 7-slots reader that cost me 30$ canadians) and they're convenient.

Hi, I highly recommend a card reader. You can bypass the software that way. Frankly, I find the reader extremely convenient and dependable. One can easily copy card images to PCs or MACs regardless of the software on the computer. Saves a lot of time and frustration IMHO.

Can't find anything that tells me one way or the other with that camera, although it doesn't appear so.  She could always just open up My Computer and see if the camera appears.  But bdery is right; many Kodaks don't work like that.

Card readers are cheap and plentiful - here are 98 to choose from starting at $3.99.  The bad thing is you've got to open the card cover on the camera, pop it out, put it in the card reader, then reverse the process when you're done - in other words, be careful not to drop/break anything any time you're ready to transfer your photos.  If you're not accident prone like me ( Shocked), it might be the best bet, though.   Wink
