Hi all, I'ts been a while.  I need some help with the Easyshare Software. First off, my son lost the disk. I do not have the original software. Second, my son tried getting his computer to boot up faster and removed the Easyshare software from his start up folder. (Its empty now)  So that means instead of automatically transferring software when he docks the camera, he has to start up the software manually first, then dock to transfer images. My questions; 1) Is there anyway to put back the Easyshare software in the startup folder so the camera will auto download when its docked?  (Its still showing in msconfig as running, but it will not start automatically.) 2) Is there anyway of getting the Software other than downloading from Kodak?  They have a 600K installer file that downloads first then a larger 25M file that automatically downloads and installs after.  I am trying to get the whole file downloaded without installing so I can burn it to a CD.  I can't find this file anywhere on the internet without automatically installing. Any chance anyone can e-mail me the CD data?

Hi!

I'm not very familiar with the Easyshare software, but here are a few things that generally work :

1-when the software is running, right-click on its icon in the tray, and look for options, preferences, etc. You might be able to find an "automatically load on startup" option. If not, search the options in the main system window. You could also contact Kodak.

Concerning the Software download, Kodak have always offered their software for free, so I wouldn't worry about having to burn it on a CD to preserve it. You can download it anytime, and get automatic updates that way. But since you did have it on a CD, maybe Kodak will let you download a complete version. Again, contacting them might be the best way to go.

Your best bet for getting the CD and/or answering the other questions are at the Kodak Talk Forum at dpreview:

Perhaps someone there can help you troubleshoot installation and other software problems. Otherwise, I highly recommend you call Kodak tech support.

btw, did you try placing a shortcut to the Easyshare launcher icon in your Startup folder? However, it seems to me that the transfer utiliity should launch without it being in the start-up folder.

Their software download AUTOMATICALLY installs. I have a dial up connection, trying to download 25Megs takes forever.  I want to download it at work, (2 minute download here), burn to disk and take it home to install.

Yes to the first part. Doesn't work. The transfer utility used to launch when the camera was placed in the docking cradle. It doesn't anymore.  Since The software is missing from the Startup folder, I'm guessing thats the reason its not working anymore.  I can start up the software manually and then get it to work when the camera is docked but not automatically anymore.

p.s. Having problems registering with that forum.  Waiting  2 hrs for a password.  Have been checking my e-mail and my quarantine folder.

F.Y.I.

Kodak is no help.  There is no way to download their software without an automatic install, and if you call and ask for a replacement CD its  $7.95.
So much for caring for their customers.  Sad Sad
