I was wondering what the best way to display digital photographs to a group is?  I've never seen a PowerPoint presentation come off flawlessly, and am confused by the screen size resolution/photo resolution issue.  Microsoft help says to use the screen resolution of the projector (1024 x 768) but when I downsize images in PowerPoint to said pixel ratio, the photo becomes larger than the "slide".  Is it better to link to the photos on file, or use some other program............

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the Q&A Board!

Unfortunately, we do not cover software such as PowerPoint. I highly recommend you post your question in the following forum where I am confident you will get the help you need.

Do you have any suggestions for any software for slideshows?

There are many slideshow programs availabe. I'm most familiar with the following, which are listed in order of sophistication with the most sophisticated listed first.

I've been using PicturesToExe for years. It is reasonably priced, the developer offers decent support and, once you pay for it, you never have to pay for an upgrade again. It's fairly easy to learn and is quite sophisticated, letting your make transitions and titles and attaching music, if you desire, to even a single image. You can download a free trial version.

Microsoft offers a nice little free slideshow program but it's for Windows XP only. It's called Photo Story 3. You can add motion, effects, music and more to digital photos.

A very popular free utility, which includeds an exif veiwer and slide show program, is Irfanview. www.irfanview.

I've heard some good things about FlipViewer but have never tried it:

Hi, I used Powerpoint for slideshows a while back and didn't have any hangups. The images were embedded as I recall. It worked well. It was displayed on a wall screen (very, very large). I could try to dig it up and see exactly what the settings were if you are planning on using PP for that purpose. I do recall using one of the onboard templates and not using any sound files. (I gave a lecture over the slideshow.)
