Help needed preserving EXIF data after editing.

I have been cropping/altering images using PSP7 and I find that any I do lose all EXIF data. Is there anyway that I can save this data or re-add the data after editing the image.
Or is the only way to upgrade/change the softaware I use.
I think I have read that adobe photoshop and PSP 9 saves EXIF data after editing.
Without purchasing the software could you advise me on the following;

Does PSP 8 save EXIF data after editing or will I need to upgrade straight to PSP 9?

Does adobe Photoshop have the same image editing tools or perform the same tasks as PSP. What if any are the differneces.

Which if any editing software is best for editing photos and keeping the EXIF data?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Kevin.

Hi kpo,

Welcome to the Q&A Board!

I use Photoshop 7 and saving exif data is easy. Simply save your images using "Save As." Here's a tutorial:

Many consider photoshop the "gold standard" of image editing programs, but it is costly not only to purchase for the first time but to upgrade. There are many users of PaintShop Pro. It is a fine image editing program too, which also saves exif data. You can download and try a copy for 30 days:

Thanks for your reply ShutterbugGail.

I think I have may have been confusing you with the abbreviations. At present I use PaintShopPro which after trying the "save as" still fails to save the EXIF data.
Is this something that the older versions are not capable of doing?
I will try to free trail download then I think  I will look into purchasing the new software.
I have never used Photoshop before. Is this a relatively easy to use software compared to/like PaintShopPro?

Thanks,

Kevin.

I honestly don't know about older versions. If you have an older version of software, check the help files and do a search for EXIF.

Good idea. Try each for a month and see which you feel more comfortable with. Don't forget the try Adobe Elements. It's the baby brother of Adobe Photoshop and has many of the key features at a fraction of the cost of photoshop and has built-in tutorials to help you learn how to use it.

Photoshop is not easy to use. I've been using it for about a decade and still don't use half it's features. If you're new to Image Editing, there will be a learning curve no matter which program you use.

If you check the Working with Images section of the main Digicamhelp site, we offer information and tutorials about image editing.

Also take a look at the Learn section.
