Hi,

I have been trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to upload a photo onto my computer using Windows ME and hp photosmart 435 digital camera. I have installed the software etc. but it appears the computer is not recognizing my camera.  This is all new to me and I am lost.  Does anyone have any idea what to do next?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Terry and welcome to the Q&A Board. There are a few things that might cause the problem but if you're getting a specific error message when you try to upload your images it would help us to know. According to HP the camera is compatible with ME so we'll skip that possibility. The HP site indicates that this type of problem can also occur if you have another HP device attached to you PC (driver conflict). As a starting point check out this link from HP. Please get back to us with any other specifics if this doesnt work and we'll try to help you through it.

Mike,
Thanks for your help.  I tried all 3 steps on the HP site, but it is doing the same thing- nothing.  It is still not recognizing the camera. I don't know what I could be doing wrong.  Any other ideas?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi, I've found I sometimes have to do a "hard start" ("shut down" your computer, wait 3 seconds or so then turn it back on) rather than a "restart" to get devices and drivers/software to interact properly. Why? I have no idea, but it might work for you.

Also, the sequence of what's connected and turned on when is important. (You did turn your camera on, yes?)

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the camera driver from the CD. You didn't say if you're using a camera dock, or just plugging the USB cord into the computer directly from the camera.
