My wife recently bought me a Lexmark P315 photo printer so that I could produce prints for her (it was my birthday present!).  I have hundreds of digital photos in my PC and she wants me to print some of them, so she got the printer.  It does a nice job, but the problem is that it lives in isolation from my PC.  It will only talk to a memory card or a Pictbridge capable camera.  What good is that?  Is there any way to get this device to talk to my PC or transfer my images to my compact flash card and then plug it into the printer? I'm stymied by this device and Lexmark is no help.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Al and welcome to the Q&A Board. I went to the Lexmark site and they make the flat statement that it is not possible to print from the PC so I guess it's the CF solution. While I've not tried it personally I believe you can copy files from your PC to the CF card using a card reader. The card should respond just like any other removeable drive.
One thing to remember though, use the camera to format the card. There have been many posts here and elsewhere indicating that formatting from the PC can corrupt the card.
Hopefully someone with actual experience with this will be along to help clear this up.

IMHO, there is nothing good about it. Can't believe someone would make a printer like that? In fact, who in their wildest dreams buying a printer would even think of it?

If you don't mind me being honest, if I was in your situation I'd ask Lexar to exchange the printer for one that works like other printers do! Or try to exchange it at the store where your wife purchased it.

If neither store nor manufacturer cooperated, I'd write it off as a loss, donate it to an organization and take a tax deduction.  Or just keep it as a backup printer.

I edit my photos a lot with Photoshop. I'd be livid if I had to transfer images back to a memory card because, as Mike pointed out, you can run into problems with the card.

PictBridge compatible printers and cameras let you crop and do some basic image editing with the camera. Heck, you can't even to that!
