Working with digital images

I have a kodak dx7590 which uses an sd memory card.  I cannot print quality photos from my computer..is their software/hardware that would allow me to download photos from my computer to my sd memorycard in the camera..which I could then have printed from the sd card.   These photos came from another source ..i.e. are not on my digital sd card....Not sure I made my request very clear...if not ...sorry  thanks in advance..freddie@csloxinfo.com

Welcome to the Q&A Board.

I've heard there are some who transfer images to a memory card but I've personally never done it. Maybe someone will come along who has successfully and can share their experience.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with it. I've heard of too many horror stories from people who have used their memory cards in ways other than suggested in the manual such as formatting via a computer rather than in-camera.

You do have other options for getting your pictures to a local printer such as transferring them to a zip drive or burning them onto a CD or DVD. But you can also use an online photo finisher, like ofoto.com (owned by Kodak) or snapfish.com. You upload your images to albums you create at their site and order prints which will be mailed directly to your home.

Your question has piqued my curiosity though, so I'm going to look into it more and if I find anything, will post it here.

I am curious though. Why can't you get quality prints from your computer and printer? Are you using photo quality paper and, if so, are you setting the printer driver to it's highest quality?

Hi there, for what it's worth (about 2 cents) I've copied my web pages to my camera's compact flash card with no problems. I didn't run it through the camera, but rather, used the card reader as the interface.  

What you don't want to do is format your memory card from your computer. That's a definite no-no. Always format your memory card from within your camera's menu option.

I've been asking around about using a memory card to bring images to a printer. Someone mentioned the following so I post it here for your consideration:

"Personally, I prefer (to bring images to a printer on a) CD...no telling what nasties your printer firm may have on its machines that could infect your flash drive and thus your PC when you returned home."

As I said previously, I haven't tried this but, as Deb said, you can use your card as a floppy or Zip disk if you chose to do so.
