Continuing in my learning curve. I made a few FrontPage web galleries of some shots and had success. I have had success in creating different layouts, adding new photos after making it and adding captions to the pictures.  I was doing alot of head banging and teeth nashing. I thought I was going crazy because I would add the description of the photo and then it would not be there.  I finally discovered that the descriptions were there, but that I had to scroll down to see it!  Is there a trick to making it all appear without having to scroll?

Yes, being able to take a look at one of your galleries would help. How and where the text displays depends on which of the four layouts you use. Sometimes the text is displayed below the images, sometimes only when you hover your mouse over an image.

If you insert a gallery within a table, you can control the width to some extent. The size of the images you are using also influences how far down on a page text displays. You can control the size of the text using the custom formatting option.
