Hi Guys,

Newbie here.  How can I turn off the CoolPix 950 camera flash and still have a connected Nikon SB27 Speedlight flash as normal while in camera automatic mode ? :-?

I would assume this could be achieve if I went to CoolPix 950 manual mode, but I want to use everything in full auto mode since it works so well.

I see no sense in using the camera's batteries for it's (internal) flash when I have a much better external flash (SB27) connected.  I simply want to save camera batteries when using a external flash attached.

Thanks !! [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Hi Mike and welcome,

Please give us a day or two to get back to you.

This forum in going into maintenance mode any moment and will remain in that mode until the new site is launched sometime tomorrow. We've been working on a redesign of the Digicamhelp for several months and tomorrow is the day! The forum will look different too but content will remain.

Mike,

This is one of the best resources on using the Nikon 950. Take a look and check out the link in the External Flashes area about mid-way down the page:

http://www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam/User-Guide/950/index.html

It should cover almost everything you need to know about using an external flash with the Nikon 950, and thensome. There is a lot of information, but just digest a little at a time.

Hello Shutterbug,

You are "the man" !!!  The link you provided gave me full and simple information that is incredibly easy to follow.

I now  know that the internal E950 flash can only be turned off in the manual mode.  Any use of the camera in the automatic mode (99.9% of the time I use it)...... the camera flash cannot be turned off to use an auxillary external flash.

Thank you very much !!!!

My best...... Mike
