What is the difference between these two cards. Can the camera use either?

Thank you

Hi Cayce and welcome to the Q&A Forum!

There are two types of Compact Flash cards: Type I, which are 3.3mm thick and Type II, which are 5mm thick. If your digital camera accepts Microdrives, it will also take the thicker, Type II CF cards.

Check the camera specifications to make sure.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Apart from actual physical size, is there a functional difference?

Hi,

yes there are differences. Type 2 cards historically have been faster and with higher capacities. That's still true for microdrives, less so with the new generations of Type 1 cards. What's sure is that Type 1 are compatible with more devices, because a Type 2 reader will usually also accept type 1, while the reverse is not always true.
