Hi, I have a Nikon D50. I usually shoot in Manual, but at times that can backfire if the light changes drastically. I've been experimenting with "Program Auto" mode and was wondering what the differece is between that and fully Automatic mode.

Thanks
Tim

Hi,

usually, Auto mode takes control of everything except image resolution. Usually, with Program modes (P modes) the camera will control aperture and shutter speed, while you can control mostly everything else : ISO, white balance, etc.

Some brands give you more or less control in program mode. For instance, Pentax lets you shift exposure by using jog dials. With my Canon compact, this was possible but only if exposure was locked beforehand. So the exact level of control you get may vary with each brand. A quick look at your camera's manual should give you the specific information you need for your camera.
